Sharks Billiards Association (SBA), the world’s first professional billiard league, aims to promote the sport as a global mainstream phenomenon by introducing a new commissioner and changing the game format. The announcement was made on May 6, 2024, at the Great White Sharks Arena.
“The SBA Season 1 is underway. SBA will have four teams with five players for each team all playing in a new and exciting format. Very soon, we will announce the team names and its owners,” said Hadley Mariano, SBA’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer.
Players from four teams of five can now compete for points that add to their team’s total winnings, a bold change for a sport typically played individually.
The league also welcomed the appointment of its new and first Commissioner, veteran sports journalist Chino Trinidad.
“I am incredibly excited about the journey that lies ahead, and rest assured that we will work to expand the reach of billiards, to cultivate new talent, and forge meaningful partnerships that will propel our sport to new heights,” shared Trinidad.
SBA, formerly the Sharks Billiard League, started as an amateur league for local players. It now aims to professionalize billiards, offering its players the chance to earn income through their skills and talent.
