Humanitarian aid organization United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) introduced a new online portal that provides real-time data on children in the Philippines from various sources.
According to UNICEF, “The Situation of Children” portal allows the government, private sector, advocacy groups, and other concerned organizations to make informed decisions based on localized and legitimate data.
“As an innovation here in the Philippines, because we have such a dynamic data environment, we thought, the situation analysis of publication after the next round of data, then the document is not valid. You need to updated it. So we looked at technology and innovation,” shared Xavier Foulquier, Chief Planning Monitoring, Evidence, and Data of UNICEF Philippines, to the reporters.
Foulquier added that the portal’s development took a year and a half to complete. He explained that real-time data became a reality due to the cooperation among sectors providing official sources.
The portal was developed in collaboration with UNICEF, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Executive Director and Undersecretary of CWC Angelo Tapales shared that protecting children’s rights is an “investment.”
“Perhaps we can maximize that investment in our children and make our future brighter,” he said.
UNICEF is encouraging Filipinos to learn about the situation of children in the country. Check out the site by visiting https://situationofchildren.org/ph.
