Sydney, Australia, will host the 16th ACM SIGGRAPH Asia Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques from December 12-15, 2023.

The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) will host the annual event, bringing together experts in computer graphics, art, animation, gaming, interactivity, education, and emerging technologies.

Themed “Connecting Stories,” technical experts worldwide will converge at the event, making it the region’s center of innovation and inspiration.

“This event will serve as a springboard for fresh initiatives to invigorate our local industry. We are also thrilled to extend a warm welcome to the world’s foremost innovators whose groundbreaking contributions have indelibly shaped our industry. Their presence underscores the profound impact of SIGGRAPH Asia in nurturing the next generation of talent,” said June Kim, Conference Chair for SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 and Associate Lecturer at Australia’s UNSW Art & Design faculty.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 will also feature two distinguished Keynote Speakers: Professor Jun Murai from Keio University, renowned internationally as ‘The Father of the Internet in Japan’ and the Founder of the WIDE Project; and Joe Letteri, the visionary Senior Visual Effects Supervisor at Wētā FX, who has five Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects to his name, known for his remarkable cinematic masterpieces such as “Avatar,” “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and “King Kong.”

Several renowned technology and visual effects speakers are scheduled to headline Featured Sessions at SIGGRAPH Asia 2023. The list includes Bryan Catanzaro of NVIDIA, Rob Bredow from Industrial Light & Magic, Paul Debevec of Netflix, and Sabine Laimer and Robin Hollander from Wētā FX. SIGGRAPH Asia is introducing new additions this year, which includes the inaugural Junior Computer Animation Festival. This festival is open to Junior (8-13 years) and Senior (14-18 years) participants. It aims to inspire students to explore the latest animation technology, enhance their technical skills, and encourage creativity at the intersection of art and technology. Additionally, the festival provides networking opportunities with industry professionals and experts, which can benefit potential careers in animation.

One more of the new additions is a collaborative program called “Super Speed Connectivity for Digital Twins,” integrating the online and physical worlds through extended reality and Digital Twins. This program provides real-time demonstrations connecting Sydney to other cities worldwide, showcasing the convergence of technology, art, and innovation. The program features high-quality streaming across continents, AR/VR-enabled digital twins for remote water treatment, and interactive live performances between Tokyo and Sydney. The ACM SIGGRAPH Hybrid Society ad-hoc Committee organizes this unique program, powered by AARNet and the WIDE Project, which pushes the boundaries of connectivity and creativity on a global scale.
