Based on Agoda, a worldwide booking platform, Siargao emerged as the top choice for slow travel in the Philippines.
The trend of slow travel, which involves spending more time in a destination than visiting multiple stops, is becoming more popular among travelers. Agoda analyzed its booking data from January to March in eight Asian markets, including the Philippines, to identify the most popular destinations for this type of travel.
Among many other Asian countries, Siargao claimed the fifth spot, making it the Philippines’ leading destination for slow travel. Other destinations on the list included Pekanbaru (Indonesia), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), and Ahmedabad (India).
Siargao is known as the surfing capital of the Philippines and is a preferred destination for slow travel among Filipino travelers using the Agoda platform. Puerto Galera and Davao City are other popular destinations. Among international destinations, Seoul in South Korea is the most visited city by Filipino travelers.
“It’s easy to understand why slow travel is one of the most fascinating travel trends right now. In today’s fast-paced world, many travelers will recognize the desire to use their holiday to disconnect from day-to-day life and form a deeper connection with the people and places they visit,” said Mike Hwang, Agoda’s country director for the Philippines.
