At long last, the Philippine National Para Games has bounced back from COVID-19, preparing for the next stage at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and PhilSports happening on November 11 to 14.
With over 900 participants, the games would feature nine sports: archery, athletics, badminton, boccia (precision ball sport), chess, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair basketball.
There will be 72 cities and provinces representing the Games, with the classification seminar kicking off on November 7, followed by the classification proper for Para athletes from November 8 to 10.
The last Games were held in Malolos, Bulacan in 2019 after putting the event on ice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s Games will be held successfully thanks to the help of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
“Our objective remains, which is to champion Para sports development and inclusion,” said Mike Barredo, President of the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) and the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PHILSPADA). He was joined by PPC Secretary General Goody Custodio and Head Coach Joel Deriada during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
According to Custodio, the Games will be the biggest opportunity to select players for the national Para team.
