Packworks, a Filipino startup that offers a B2B open platform for sari-sari stores, has reached a significant milestone. On November 15, 2024, it won four awards at the KMC Startup Awards 2024. The company was honored for its innovative efforts to empower sari-sari stores and influence the future of hyperlocal retail in the Philippines.
Packworks received the gold award in the Tech Innovator category for transforming the grassroots retail sector in the Philippines. Their platform helps over 300,000 sari-sari stores nationwide by digitizing daily tasks like pricing, inventory management, and sales tracking. It also offers access to working capital loans. Partner stores enjoy higher earnings through exclusive discounts from partner FMCG brands and companies, making this platform a game-changer for small-scale retailers.
The company’s CEO, Bing Tan, also received the gold trophy for Emerging Business Leader of the Year for his contributions to fintech and retail.
“We wanted to create a model built around inclusion – to uplift lives and empower the sari-sari stores we work with, not replace them. We dedicate this award to all the sari-sari stores,” said Tan, who emphasized Packworks’ mission of helping sari-sari store owners, mainly women, keep up in the rapid digital landscape while growing their businesses.
Packworks also received the silver award in the Social Impact Award category for its contributions to marginalized communities. The event ended with the company winning the bronze Startup of the Year award. They were recognized alongside GoTyme Bank, which won gold, and UNO Digital Bank, which won silver.
The KMC Startup Awards, now in its second year, celebrates forward-thinking startups and innovators shaping the Philippine economy’s future.
