To mark the anniversary of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) this August, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will host the 7th ASEAN Expo, a film festival that will screen several Southeast Asian cinematic works. This event will be held at the Red Carpet Cinema at the Shangri-La Plaza shopping mall from August 17 to 18. Admission is free.
With the theme “Enchantments for a Fragile World,” the two-day film festival provides a glimpse into the magical stories of the region. It reinterprets Southeast Asian folklore, using mythical creatures and legends to tell lessons and important teaching models from ancient societies without a separate system of philosophical inquiry.
First-day films:
- Golden Dragon directed by Boren Chhith (Cambodia)
- Once Upon a Time, There Was a Mom by Lin Htet Aung (Myanmar)
- Worship by Uruphong Raksasad (Thailand)
- Snow in Midsummer by Chong Keat Aun (Malaysia)
- The Long Walk by Mattie Do (Laos)
Second-day films:
- Part of Me by Hazrul Aizan (Brunei)
- Of Other Tomorrows Never Known by Natasha Tontey (Indonesia)
- Memoryland by Kim Quy Bui (Viet Nam)
- Dreaming and Dying directed by Nelson Yeo (Singapore)
