Fast-food restaurant Jollibee Foods Corp. pledged PHP5 million to the National Academy for Sports (NAS), following the success of Filipino athletes in the Olympic Games.
Two-time gold medalist Carlos Yulo presented the pledge alongside Jollibee officials, including Jollibee Philippines President Ferns Uy and Vice President and Head of Marketing Dorothy Dee-Ching.
According to NAS Executive Director Josephine Joy Reyes, the PHP5 million pledge will be used to buy more sports equipment and enhance facilities for athletic students.
“I am grateful to NAS for providing access to better training and free facilities that develop future athletes,” said Gymnast Carlos Yulo, who won two-time gold in this year’s Olympics. “I want to add to Jollibee’s motto that the joy is in being the hero, and that includes us athletes as well.”
So far, the NAS campus is currently in Phase 1, which includes the Admin and Academic Building and gym. The second phase, consisting of the Sports Science building, stack housing, and gymnastics center, is set be completed in August next year.
