‘Manokan Country:’ A Heartwarming Short Film Celebrating Bacolod’s Culinary Traditions

A heartwarming 20-minute film directed by Banjo Hinolan is ready to premiere at the Bacolod Film Festival from September 12-15, 2024, at Ayala Malls Capitol Central and SM City Bacolod cinemas.

This comedy movie tells the story of a family-owned Chicken Inasal restaurant in Bacolod City. The restaurant is at risk of being redeveloped, and the owner, Raul, decides to host a high-stakes Chicken Inasal cooking competition to save it. With the help of his daughter Maria and the local community, Raul must find a way to balance tradition and innovation to protect his family’s legacy.

Manokan Country is set in Bacolod City and celebrates Filipino resilience and the power of food to bring people together. The film stars Hector Gloria, Jerianne Panisales, Tex Romero, Hayde Portal, and Louis Dormido, highlighting perseverance and community spirit.

This film is among the top 10 contenders vying for the prize in this year’s Bacolod Film Festival.
