The Manila city government formally opened the Manila Film Festival this year with the theme “Manila in Me” to celebrate local creativity and talent.
The Manila Mayor, Honey Lacuna, stressed the festival’s importance in showcasing the diverse talents of young filmmakers and highlighting Manila as a vibrant hub for nurturing artistic skills.
The festival now includes short films, which aim to refine the craft of emerging filmmakers by encouraging concise storytelling within a limited time frame.
The first showing is planned for June 4, while the festival is scheduled between June 5 and June 11.
According to Vice Mayor Yul Servo, the Manila City Council plans to exempt fees for venues or sites used by filmmakers upon the request of the mayor and tourism chief, Charlie Dungo.
Kaye Valenzuela, organizer and CEO of Kreativden, said ticket prices for the event will be affordable for students. The actual prices will be announced soon.
