Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Rep. Margarita Nograles urged the Land Registration Authority (LRA) to begin forfeiture proceedings on the real estate assets still in possession by Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and from the family of dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo.
The party-list lawmaker stated that owning land in the Philippines goes against the country’s constitution, which doesn’t allow foreigners to own land. In the meantime, Guo is being questioned about her possible involvement in illegal POGOs and her citizenship.
“The increasing reports of Chinese nationals and corporations, particularly those connected to POGOs, holding real estate assets are deeply alarming and must be addressed with urgency,” said Nograles.
She also emphasized the importance of government agencies working together to investigate and stop illegal land purchases by undesirable aliens and criminal organizations.
“By taking swift action against illegal land ownership, we not only uphold the Constitution but also protect the Philippines from further risks associated with these operations,” she concluded.
During his State of the Nation Address on July 22, 2024, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. banned all POGOs in the country and ordered the cessation of POGO operations by the end of the year.
