Kaspersky’s latest study revealed that there are nearly 43 million local threats targeting organizations in Southeast Asia.

According to the cybersecurity company, it blocked 42,700,000 local infections from January to December last year.

Local infection statistics are crucial indicators of the cyberthreat landscape. They comprise objects that entered a computer through infected files or removable media or initially came in non-open form (e.g., programs in complex installers, encrypted files, etc.).

Despite the increase in global threats, all SEA countries except Singapore saw a slight decline in local threats detected and blocked on corporate devices with Kaspersky business solutions.

Overall, businesses in Vietnam (17,100,000), Indonesia (16,400,000), and Thailand (4,700,000) experienced the most number of this threat in 2023.

The Philippines, on the other hand, ranks 5th, with local threats amounting to 1,500,000.

“Southeast Asia shows a solid potential to become a major manufacturing hub globally. The region is also consistent in charting steady digital economic growth through the years. To be able to continue these feats, organisations, whether operating on IT or OT systems, should build their cyberdefenses against sophisticated attacks that use the same old techniques and tactics,” commented Adrian Hia, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky.

To protect against local attacks, a security solution with a firewall, anti-rootkit functionality, and control over removable devices is necessary. Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business can scan removable drives for malware.

Kaspersky also offers an integrated software solution called Kaspersky Unified Monitoring and Analysis Platform (KUMA), which offers event monitoring and management functions. A unified console for monitoring and analysing information security incidents, KUMA can also be used as a log management system and a full-fledged SIEM system.
