Kaspersky IT Security Economics reported most companies are most concerned about productivity loss, securing complex tech environments, and enabling data protection. These concerns are fueled by the ever-increasing demands and complexities of IT security.
This yearly report analyzes budget changes, breaches, and business challenges affecting IT Security decision-makers. Compiled from interviews with IT and IT security professionals from various organizations and industries, the survey was carried out in 27 countries across Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Turkey, the Africa region, Latin America, and North America.
The report showed that downtime and lost productivity are the most pressing business concerns stemming from ineffective IT security, with 38% of companies citing this issue. This is largely attributed to the extended time required to detect, respond to, and remediate threats.
Securing complex technology environments and ensuring data connectivity follow closely, affecting 33% of respondents. The primary challenges identified include the increasing number of incidents involving non-computing connected devices, malfunctioning cybersecurity solutions leaving systems vulnerable, and the difficulty of managing security across diverse computing platforms. These factors hinder the creation of a comprehensive and reliable cybersecurity system.
Data protection ranks as the third most significant concern, with 33% of companies highlighting its importance, equal to the previous concern. Respondents expressed their worries primarily due to the frequent physical loss of devices by employees and the leakage of data from corporate systems, which can occur for external and internal reasons.
“Attackers no longer solely rely on zero-day exploits, as a simple click on a malicious link or a vulnerability in a contractor’s infrastructure can lead to devastating consequences. This underscores the idea that information security should be based on a comprehensive and systematic approach, rather than being limited to the implementation of individual point-specific measures,” commented Alexey Vovk, Information Security Director at Kaspersky.
