Aiming to secure web browsing for users to avoid fake or harmful websites, Google is developing a verified checkmark feature on search results, as stated by a company spokesperson.
Google currently employs automated systems to detect webpages containing deceptive or fraudulent material and to block them from appearing in search results. Otherwise, safe and official websites will be given a verified checkmark, similar to Elon Musk’s X (Twitter).

According to the spokesperson, this will enable users to safely navigate websites and avoid falling for misinformation on fake websites.
“We regularly experiment with features that help shoppers identify trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to certain businesses on Google,” shared the spokesperson.
Up to now, only specific big corporations such as Apple and Microsoft possess checkmarks. It appears that smaller online platforms may not yet have the checkmark.
For now, only a few users can access it, as per The Verge. This suggests that Google has not yet widely implemented the test.
