Globe is offering free connectivity support, including roaming call, text, and data services, to Filipinos in Taiwan after the 7.2-magnitude earthquake.

To help Filipinos in Taiwan reach out to loved ones or make emergency calls, Globe postpaid, prepaid, and TM users will receive 15 minutes of free calls, 15 texts, and 1GB of data for 7 days.

Globe and TM customers can enjoy free roaming service by connecting to Globe’s partners in Taiwan. No registration is needed; the service will be automatically provided. Once the service is ready to use, customers will receive a confirmation message.

“Tens and thousands of Filipinos work and live in Taiwan, with thousands more going on a visit annually. We hope that through this immediate connectivity support, we can help our customers there contact their loved ones and cope in the aftermath of this temblor,” said Paula Rivera-Castillo, Head of Globe International Business.

To avail of free-roaming services, Globe and TM customers in Taiwan can follow the following steps:

  • To make a call, dial “+” plus the country code, area code, and telephone number (e.g., +63773101212) or “+” plus the country code and mobile number (e.g., +639171234567).
  • To send a text, type “+” plus country code and mobile number (ex. +639171234567).
  • To use the free 1GB data allocation, turn on mobile data and data roaming and set the network connection to 3G or LTE. Postpaid customers are encouraged to turn on their mobile data and data roaming once they receive the activation message.

On Wednesday, a strong earthquake hit 18 kilometers off Taiwan’s Hualien City, toppling buildings and triggering landslides and tsunami warnings in Japan and the Philippines. The earthquake is the strongest in 25 years. At 10:33 AM, the Philippines’ seismology agency canceled the warning.
