Telco giant Globe has increased its efforts to combat cyber threats by deactivating and blocking several SIMs. In Q1 2024, the company blocklisted 36,549 SIMs from other networks, a 62% increase compared to last year.
In Q1 2024, Globe deactivated 841 SIMs due to spam or scam SMS, marking a 30% year-on-year increase from the 647 SIMs deactivated in Q1 2023.
“We have zero tolerance for abusive SIMs that undermine network security and compromise customer experience. Our accelerated deactivation efforts demonstrate our unwavering resolve to fight these cybersecurity threats head-on,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s Chief Information Security Officer.
Globe detects SIM abuse cases through monitoring and customer reports via the Stop Spam portal. It promptly deactivates those SIMs to protect customers and service quality.
Globe advises customers to stay alert and avoid sharing personal information or clicking on unfamiliar links. Report any suspicious messages or links via Globe’s Stop Spam portal. Alternatively, users can also call PNP ACG by dialing 0968 867 4302.
Mobile phone users are advised to be careful of emerging fraud tactics, such as scam messages sent via chat apps and spoofing. These scams have caused many victims to lose their money.
