Dr. Teodoro ‘Ted’ Martin, the Director of the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center (GABMC) in Tondo, Manila, was recently honored by Mayor Honey Lacuna for his 30 years of unwavering service to the city.
Committed to providing exemplary public service in the field of medicine, Dr. Martin and his team tirelessly serve the residents of the district. This recognition was part of the “Gawad Pagkilala sa mga Kawani ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Maynila,” a significant event during the celebration of the 453rd ‘Araw ng Maynila’ on June 24, 2024.
He started his impressive profession in Manila in 1994 at the Ospital ng Tondo, where he was the head of the pediatrics department. Martin’s skills were acknowledged, leading to his appointment as the Director of the Ospital ng Tondo in 2007.
After being impressed by his performance, then-Manila Mayor Fred Lim appointed him as the Director of the Ospital ng Maynila in 2009. When Lim became mayor, Manila had only one free hospital—the Ospital ng Maynila. He built five more hospitals to serve the entire city for free, appointing Dr. Martin to lead one of them. Dr. Martin led the Justice Jose Abad Santos Mother and Child Hospital and the Gat Andres Medical Center. Mayor Lacuna retained Martin based on his track record.
As Director of the GABMC, Martin successfully turned the hospital around from a dilapidated state. He has served under different mayors and continues to provide valuable service for the benefit of Manilans and the city.
