Want to go for a stroll and fresh air? Starting May 26, Roxas Boulevard will be open for walking and cycling all day.
With the approval of Ordinance No. 9047 by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, a section of Roxas Boulevard will be designated car-free to encourage healthy lifestyles on Sundays.
“I personally inspected Roxas Boulevard to make sure the road will be ready for the people who will exercise. We checked for any hazards and gave instructions to make sure the road, sidewalk, bay walk, and connecting roads are cleared of hazards and garbage,” said Mayor Lacuna.
The mayor emphasized that the car-free Sundays on Roxas Boulevard might motivate individuals to lose some of the extra weight they put on during the pandemic, while also allowing them to value the historical, cultural, and economic importance of Roxas Boulevard from Luneta to Quirino Avenue.
“People will experience a different perspective of Roxas Boulevard. They will have more time to appreciate its beauty and significance while walking, jogging, running, and biking, instead of the sights going by like a blur while riding any vehicle,” she added.
Lacuna assured that the local government will notify buildings, businesses, residents, and offices along Roxas Boulevard to adjust their Sunday schedules in May and June.
