The Walang Gutom Kitchen has provided meals to over 4,000 people facing hunger since the food bank opened in Pasay City on December 16. This initiative was launched by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Asst. Secretary Dumlao, who is also the spokesperson for the DSWD, stated that the department helped families living on the streets and those facing hunger. They offered assistance through donations from hotels, restaurants, and other businesses, providing food for 4,452 individuals from the launch until December 24, 2024.
“We are equally thankful to the volunteers who, even on holidays, spent their time serving food to the beneficiaries of the kitchen,” expressed Asst. Secretary Dumlao.
The Walang Gutom Kitchen serves fresh, delicious, and healthy food. It will be open from December 26 to 31, then closes on January 1, 2025, New Year’s Day.
The Walang Gutom Kitchen is a new initiative by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian. Its goal is to fight hunger and reduce food waste. The kitchen takes surplus food from hotels, restaurants, and organizations into hot, nutritious meals for needy people.
