DSWD Donates 14K Food Packs for Families Affected by Super Typhoons in Batanes

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided about 14,000 food packs to the families in the island province of Batanes after Typhoon Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon hit the area.

According to Irish Flor Yaranon, Chief Administrative Officer of National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau, nearly 5,500 family food packs currently being cargoed by the Philippine Coast Guard (CG) to be sent from Pangasinan to Batanes.

“As per advice by the Philippine Coast Guard this morning, once the weather turns okay, they will need to travel 20 hours to reach Batanes),” shared Yaranon in a press release.

Yaranon said the agency is using all available entry points and transportation methods to deliver 14,000 food packs to the island, as directed by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian.

As of now, 7,484 families, or 21,391 people, have been affected by Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon in 29 barangays on the island.
