Digital Pinoys Applaud POGO Ban, Call for Smooth Transition for Affected Filipino Workers

Digital Pinoys, a Philippine group of digital advocates, welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr’s order to ban all Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), also known as Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs).

“Now that POGOs are banned, PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) should ensure that previously licensed operators will actually cease their operations and will not set up clandestine operations,” said Digital Pinoys national campaigner Ronald Gustilo

Gustilo also emphasized that the government must take appropriate measures to support Filipino workers affected by the POGO ban.

“Many Filipinos are also employed by these POGOs and they are working as utility personnel, drivers and private security providers. Their transition from POGO-related jobs should be ensured by the government.”

Gustilo noted that POGOs have been operating as scam hubs targeting cryptocurrency users, as well as sites for torture and sexual exploitation. He hopes the ban on POGOs will lead to the reduction and eventual eradication of scams based in the Philippines.
