The Department of Agriculture (DA) plans to open 60 Kadiwa ng Pangulo stores nationwide, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s goal to improve food security and affordability.
“We expect to have at least 60 Kadiwa ng Pangulo stores across the country next month to provide more Filipinos with greater access to affordably-priced agricultural products, including the PHP29 per kilo rice intended for vulnerable sectors,” said DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.
The P29 Program aimed to support the vulnerable sector, including Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (4Ps) members, persons with disabilities (PWD), senior citizens, and solo parents. This program offers high-quality rice stocks from the National Food Authority (NFA) at PHP29 per kilogram, even though the rice is nearing the end of its shelf life.
Laurel also mentioned that they are working with food manufacturers to provide additional items such as cooking oil, fresh fish, poultry products, and more.
Overall, the DA plans to standardize operations in 1,500 Kadiwa stores across each municipality nationwide, aiming to partner with the country’s farmers’ cooperatives and associations.
Regular Kadiwa locations include:
- Bureau of Animal Industry Dome and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in Quezon City
- Bureau of Plant Industry in Malate, Manila
- Food Terminal, Inc. in Taguig City
- Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority in Las Piñas
