With the New Year just right in the corner, we look forward to making lots of noise and cheer to celebrate a prosperous future. By tradition, it is also to scare away bad luck and evil spirits for the upcoming year.

However, for our pets, it can often be a source of anxiety and stress. The loud noises and bright lights can be overwhelming, causing them to feel scared and uncomfortable.

So here are some tips to keep your furry friends calm and safe during New Year’s celebrations:

Create a Safe Space For Your Pets

Creating a cozy and comfortable area where your pet can retreat when they feel overwhelmed is crucial. This space can be a crate, a bed, or a quiet room. You should include their favorite toys, blankets, and treats to make them feel at home.

Keep Your Pet Indoors

It’s recommended to keep them indoors during the celebrations. Close all windows and doors to minimize the noise, and ensure your pet wears a collar with proper identification tags in case they get scared and run away.

Provide Background Noise

Create a calming environment for your pet during fireworks by playing soft music, turning on the TV, using white noise machines, or calming music designed for pets.

Use Pheromone Products

Pheromone products such as sprays, diffusers, and collars release calming scents that can help reduce your pet’s stress levels during stressful situations.

Keep Calm And Your Pets Will Be Too

Pets can sense when their owners are anxious or stressed, so staying calm and relaxed is vital during the celebrations. Try to maintain composure and avoid making a big deal out of the fireworks.

Consult Your Veterinarian

If your pet is prone to stress or anxiety, consult with your veterinarian to explore the use of medications or supplements that will keep them calm throughout the festivities.

Of course, each pet is unique, so what works for one may not work for another. These tips will, at least, help keep your pet stress-free and happy throughout the New Year celebrations.
