The Philippines will have eight athletes joining the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Junior Championships from September 19 to 27, 2024, in Leon, Spain.
Athletes from Zamboanga City, including Angeline Colonia, Rose Jean Ramos, Jhodie Peralta, and Rosalinda Faustino, as well as Albert Ian De los Santos, along with Lovely Inan and Prince Keil Delos Santos from Angono, Rizal, and Eron Borres from Cebu, are scheduled to travel to Spain on September 15. Their visas are currently being processed. Coaches Gregorio Colonia, Allen Jayfrus Diaz, and Diwa Delos Santos from Zamboanga City, along with Samuel Alegada from Bohol, will accompany the team.
“The World Championships is a very tough competition so our athletes have to be ready, we’re hoping for the best,” said Allen Diaz.
The Philippines has achieved numerous awards in Weightlifting Junior Championships. Just recently, in last year’s Asian Youth and Junior Championships, Colonia won three golds, one silver, and one bronze in the Youth and Junior divisions in the women’s 49kg category.
